Steve Smith, Partner, Smith, McDonald & Vaught, LLP
Steve has practiced continuously in Portland with the law firm of Smith, McDonald & Vaught, LLP (originally Casey, Palmer & Feltz), since 1973. His practice areas include estate tax planning, with a special emphasis on planning for parents with developmentally disabled children. He also specializes in will and trust administration, guardianships and conservatorships, taxation, and real property transactions.
Steve serves on the board of directors of the Multnomah County Association for Retarded Citizens. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oregon in 1970 and the University of Oregon Law School in 1973.
Laura joined Smith, McDonald & Vaught as an associate in 1997 and was named partner in 2005. Her practice areas include estate and tax planning, trust and probate administration and related taxation, guardianships and conservatorship, and formation and representation of closely held businesses.
Laura is a cofounder and a board member of the Oregon Cleft Lip and Craniofacial Organization (dba Smile Oregon). She graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1990 and Loyola Marymount University Loyola Law School in 1993.
Michael has been with Geffen Mesher & Company since 2002. A CPA and LEED AP, he has significant expertise in tax and business planning. Previously, Michael worked at another local CPA firm where he specialized in meeting the accounting and tax needs of small business owners. Michael has experience in several industries, including real estate, professional services, and renewable energy.
Outside the office, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and working with several local nonprofit organizations. He earned a BS in business accounting from the University of Idaho.
